Here is a head up of our project, we will try to updated it more often from now
What problem or need does the project address?
Our project is dealing with back pain problems. Indeed :
- 70 - 80% of Fench people suffer from back pains at least once in their life.
- 2nd reason why people consult their general practitioner
- 1st cause of partial disability before 45 years old
- It is is an articulation we use +1500 / a day.
- It costs almost 2,3 million euros every year.
Today, prevention campaigns are launched to raise awareness about back pain, but there are 2 problems with this :
- most of the time people don’t feel concerned by back pain until they suffer from it
- knowing is not doing, people don’t necessarily change their body posture even with the right informations
Indeed, low back pain most of the time doesn’t require medical care nor further exams. The person concerned has a major role to play : he or she has to keep moving and do activities while adapting to his / her living conditions.
(numbers from : INPES)
In order to help with this problem, our team is trying to make a serious game so the player can learn how to have a good position without noticing it. We want to hide the serious part as much as possible, so people would play it because it is fun and not because it is a medical (boring) game. Indeed, the goal is to target as much people as we can do, as low back pain is widely spread.
Our idea is to make a VR game with motion gaming. It is going to be a escape room like game : the player will be at the center of a room, and will have to stand positions to solve puzzle, enigmas, riddles etc. He/she will wear a belt with an accelerometer (and maybe an altimeter) to send bio-feedback to the game, and a google Cardboard as a VR device.
What skill sets does the project need?
Today we need :
A medical expertise about low back pain, so we can define what are the right positions for the game (we don’t want to cause any more damage)
A level designer to create puzzles. We don’t necessarily need someone to work full time with us, but if someone is willing to explain to us game mechanics, he/she is more than welcome
In the near future :
We would need someone to compose music
We are looking for a distribution network, people who would be interested in our project ( we already have contacted a start up helping us : Koondal)
What are you hoping to achieve by 4th August?
We would like to develop a playable demo of our game.
